Castle Leslie
Located near the village of Glaslough, about 9km north-east of Monaghan, is the 500-hectare demesne of Castle Leslie, a 19th-century mansion overlooking the lake.

Includes exhibits from the Stone Age to modern times, and has displays on local lace-making. The museum's prized possession is the Cross of Clogher, a bronze 13th or 14th-century altar cross.

Rossmore Forest Park
Located 3km south-west of Monaghan, was originally the home of the Rossmores. All that remains today of Rossmore Castle are the buttresses and the entrance stairway. Other points of interest include Iron Age wedge and court tombs and the Rossmore's pet cemetery. In the 1930s a gold collar from around 1800 BC was found and is now in the National Museum in Dublin.

Trim Castle
Founded in 1173 by Hugh de Lacy, the motte and bailey were destroyed a year later by Rory O'Connor, said to have been the last high king of Ireland. The castle is also known as King John's Castle after a visit by King John is 1210 to bring the de Lacy family into line.
